This extensive remodel was prompted by an accident that could have had a very unhappy ending. But for this couple, the windstorm that toppled a giant tree onto their home, ruining their tiny kitchen and crushing their GE side-by-side refrigerator, was a great opportunity as well. They decided to redesign and rebuild the home they desired in this riverfront setting.

Their love of the ever changing water, the natural wildlife and waterfront activities led them to a design that truly allowed the indoors and outdoors to mingle in this light filled space. They embraced natural materials such as salvaged hardwood floors from an actual log boom, rescued from the very river they lived on. Focal points are provided by an island consisting of a single slab of stone reminiscent of the flowing river, and rough-cut stone floors.

As the open design developed, it was never a doubt that the appliance package needed to be hardworking and complete for every need in their cooking world. In the homeowners' own words, these appliances would be "pushed" to perform on a daily basis, as well as for their extensive entertaining needs. Their love of cooking demanded products that would meet and exceed those needs. Hence, a suite of GE Monogram appliances entered the picture.

Work zones for food preparation, cooking and cleanup were a must, as well as a wet bar. To complement the work areas, seating in front of the fireplace with a full view of the river for dining and entertaining was designed into the new space. The full folding NanaWall of glass allowed for summertime entertaining on the deck just steps from the kitchen. Elegant but rustic in a way, this kitchen answered all the homeowners' needs and desires for their lifestyle.
